Workshops of 2-day summit to examine tolerance practices in everyday life

The second edition of World Tolerance Summit (WTS), under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and themed ‘Tolerance in Multiculturalism: Achieving the Social, Economic and Humane Benefits of a Tolerant World’, will have a series of workshops that examine ways to spread a culture of tolerance in the society.

The two-day summit to be held on 13 and 14 November at the halls of Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai will discuss principles of tolerance that can promote peaceful coexistence, openness and cultural dialogue among communities.

The first workshop titled Education of Tolerance – An Analysis of UAE Islamic Education Curriculum at the Secondary Level will have Dr Mariam Alhashmi Assistant Professor at the College of Education, Zayed University, and Dr Naved Bakali, Assistant Professor at the College of Education, American University in Dubai, as the leader. The workshop covers topics like how tolerance is conceptualised in the Islamic Education curriculum, the challenges associated with it in incorporating the principles of tolerance, among others.

Dr Wajeeha Al Baharna, Vice-President of the Bahrain Women’s Society for Human Development in the Kingdom of Bahrain, will present a workshop titled We Tolerate to Transcend, which will address ways to promote values ​​of tolerance in society and how to enable young people to practise and adopt tolerance, besides the experience of nations in implementing the values of tolerance.

Another workshop titled Science can save humanity, if We Just Understand Ourselves Better Through It! will raise questions about our pre-conceived beliefs and help adjust misguided perceptions that are getting in the way of a more peaceful world.

Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Fawzan, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Secretary General of the King Abdul Aziz Centre for National Dialogue, will review Saudi Arabia’s tolerance initiatives in another workshop while

Abdullah Mohammed Al Ansari, Director of Community Research, Awareness and Public Relations at the Erada Centre for Treatment and Rehabilitation in Dubai, will present ‘Masmooh’, rehab programme of the centre in the Year of Tolerance.

The workshop Titled Values of Tolerance in the UAE will examine examples of tolerance in everyday practices, customs and traditions and review UAE as the model of tolerance, and its influence in the region and world. Prof. Husniya Mohammed Al-Ali, Chief of Education Programme section, National Archives, UAE will be the leader of the workshop that also feature life of Founding Father, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan.com
