Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority, the 6th International Family Medicine Conference and Exhibition – IFM, an event dedicated to family physicians and experts, will be taking place from the 25th to the 27th of February at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre
Being held under the theme ‘Improving Patient Care with Innovation and Technology’, the 3-day medical gathering, brings together top family physicians, experts, academicians, students and professionals from the industry with the aim of discussing the latest updates in the field of family medicine while also addressing the most crucial healthcare challenges faced by family physicians
For the first time, IFM is focusing on ‘telehealth’, which is the use of digital information and communication technologies, such as computers and mobile devices to access healthcare services remotely and manage health at the patient’s doorstep. As telemedicine helps primary care doctors by providing easy access to patients, reduces costs and improves healthcare outcomes, experts attending IFM aim to offer their insights on how telehealth is transforming our healthcare system
This year, IFM Conference is expected to attract more than 3,000 visitors over the span of 3 days, witness the presence of 50 world renowned speakers, feature 2 workshops and 38 scientific sessions in addition to showcasing 50 scientific posters. The conference attendees will also get a chance to earn 20.5 CME credit points from UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP)
Commenting on the key highlights of IFM 2019, Dr. Ibtesam Al Bastaki, Conference Chairperson, IFM, said, “IFM continues to retain its position as the gatekeeper within the Primary Health Care (PHC) setup and this year, we intend to reveal a number of evolving new technologies in the field of family medicine. The 3-day conference is focusing on a number of important topics faced by family physicians such as neuro-psychiatry, communicable and non-communicable diseases, cardiovascular disease and diabetes while also exploring the key role of value and technology in clinical based outcomes as well as how tele-health is impacting the primary healthcare landscape.”
She added, “At IFM, we believe in an accessible and affordable healthcare for all segments of the population and this is only possible through a well-established Primary Health Care setup. Family physicians are certainly at the forefront and with their patient centered, evidence based and family focused approach, they are responsible for delivering comprehensive care towards the community. In 2019, IFM is also addressing another key role of a family physician, aiming to improve their communication skills and training them with regards to “how to break the bad news”.
