BUiD’s students participated in the Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows ‘Engineer for a Day’ event, which was organised by the British Embassy in the UAE, sponsored by Rolls-Royce and BAe Systems, and hosted by Heriot-Watt Dubai.
At the BUiD stand, our students demonstrated their skills and equipment in the areas of software engineering and artificial intelligence through interactive systems and robotic coding.
We had the honour to be visited by His Majesty’s Consul General to Dubai Simon Penney, Colonel Rob Connelly, UK Defence Attaché to the UAE, and Wing Commander Sandy Sandilands, UK Air Force Attaché to the UAE. The stand was visited also by RAF Red Arrows pilots and engineers who interacted with our students.
Hugh Martin, BUiD’s Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer, commented, “It was great leading our small team at this event, following on from the success we enjoyed working with the RAF Red Arrows at the same event in which we participated last year at the UK Pavilion at EXPO 2020. We are very proud of our students and their participation in events like these enhances their knowledge, tests their skills, and exposes them to the latest innovations in their area of specialisations. As a university with close ties to the UK, it is always a pleasure to work with our colleagues in the British Embassies in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.”
BUiD encourages its students to participate in such events and competitions to enable them to gain a wider skillset and new experiences, which help them in real life situations and challenges.
