Dubai Cares Unveils its plans for the 10th Anniversary of the Walk for Education

Dubai Cares, part of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, has unveiled its plans to mark the 10th anniversary of its annual Walk for Education. The annual event, which is in support of the Year of Tolerance, will take place on Friday 15 February 2019 at Dubai Creek Park, will include new and exciting activities and performances that are guaranteed to both raise awareness as well as keep the crowd entertained.
Her Excellency Minister of Community Development joins the anniversary celebration
H.E. Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development will be leading the Dubai Cares Walk for Education 2019 alongside Dubai Cares’ Chief Executive Officer, Tariq Al Gurg thus joining the UAE community in marking the “Year of Tolerance” and demonstrating the UAE’s efforts towards instilling the values of co-existence and peace which have placed the nation as a global capital for tolerance. She will also be joining in marking the 10th anniversary of the Walk for Education and sending a loud and clear message to the world about the importance of providing children and youth safe access to school.
Introducing new and exciting entertainment and performances
The Walk will be co-hosted by radio presenters Abdulla Esmaeel and Saif and Sound, joined by Dubai-based DJ Keza. To mark the “Year of Tolerance”, the Walk will include a fantastic parade of bands and heritage dance groups representing different cultures and nationalities such as the Dubai Police band, a traditional Emirati performance presented by the students of the Ministry of Education, a performance by the Aga Khan Scouts and Guides Band, a choir performance by students from GEMS Modern Academy, an Indian classical dance performed by GEMS Millennium school, a music performance by Paddyman, Dubai Drums and Mixed Symphony.
How can participants reach the venue for the Walk for Education?
You can get to Dubai Creek Park by several means of transportation. The Dubai Healthcare City metro station is within walking distance as well as the main parking hub which is located at Al Boom Tourist Village. Participants should take into consideration the road closures at 8 am along Al Riyadh Street when making their plans.
How can individuals register?
Participants can register online through Virgin Megastore Tickets. Otherwise, they can register on-site on the day of the Walk from 8:00am onwards near Gate 2 at the Dubai Creek Park. Following their admission in to the park, participants will be able to collect their t-shirts as well as enjoy a variety of pre-walk activities including stretching and warming ups.
What happens during the Walk?
The Walk starts at 9am sharp whereby the participants join colleagues, friends and family in the 3km walk. Participants can carry signs and posters representing the organizations or groups they belong to, others carry messages of support to underprivileged children as well as balloons and cheering sticks. Participants finish the 3km walk (4,000 steps) within 25 to 50 minutes, depending on their pace.
What are the post-walk activities?
Following the walk, at exactly 10am, the post-walk activities begin. The carnival-themed event will be complemented by a family-friendly lineup of post-walk entertainment inside the park, including face painting, hair braiding, carnival games, music and traditional dance in addition to a fun-filled program of entertainment activities including, hula hoop, bouncy castles and arts and crafts stations. The program also includes sport activities that will be handled by Duplays. In addition, attendees will get to savour delicious food and drink by visiting pop-up food and beverage stalls from Costa, Ice cream Lab, El Greco, Mom’s Crepe, Pocari Sweat, Projecto Acai, Subway and The Smoking 9.
