Hamdan Medical Award Organizes 11 Workshops within the 10th Dubai International Conference for Medical Sciences

The 10th Dubai international conference for Medical Sciences kicked off yesterday with 11 workshops that discussed musculoskeletal diseases, focusing on joint diseases, orthopedic surgery and orthopedic mechanics at Roda Al Bustan hotel in Dubai, in conjunction with the award ceremony for honoring the winners of its 10th term.
The workshops included three sessions; two of which were parallel. The first of these sessions discussed rheumatic diseases and included four lectures, where Professor Munther Khamashta, Consultant Physician and Director of the Lupus Research Laboratory at St Thomas Hospital, London, presented a workshop on the latest updates in systemic lupus erythematosus
Suad Hannawi, consultant of Rheumatology and Chairman of the Rheumatology Committee at the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) of UAE, presented a workshop on cardiovascular risk in rheumatoid arthritis
Dr Faisal Elbadawi, Senior Specialist Physician and Rheumatologist, and a member of the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom, presented a workshop entitled “When back pain should be taken seriously?”
Dr. Haidar Al-Attiyah presented two workshops during which he discussed tissue calcifications; the first of these on calcinosis cutis and ossification in the clinical practice, and the second one about autoimmune disease and vitamin D deficiency in the UAE
The second session was about orthopedic surgery and included four lectures, where Klaus-Arno Siebenrock, Chairman and Director, Department for Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at the University of Berne, discussed a simple diagnostic guide for the painful young hip, while Professor Frank J. Frasica, head of orthopedics at Johns Hopkins University, presented a work shop about teaching the clinicians on the use of a classification system to help them evaluate and treat patients with soft tissue masses
Dr. Ali Al Baloushi, Orthopedic Consultant at Med Clinic City hospital, United Arab Emirates, gave a lecture on the role of robot in knee assisted surgery
The last lecture was presented by Professor Andy Carr, where she discussed changes to the regulation of medical implants and devices
The third session included two lectures entitled “ultrasound of the upper limps ” presented by Dr. Gita Harifi and Dr. Ahmed Najm
