The state-of-art theatre at the 12th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival is packed. Children of all ages troop in excitedly with their families to watch the play ‘Good Night’ whose main character is an endearingly spunky teenager, Cilia.
Cilia loves music and only wants to strum the strings of her guitar and sing. But her mother fears she will end up like her estranged father Carlos and keeps stopping Cilia from pursuing her dream. As the play progresses, several other interesting characters appear on stage to create intense and light-hearted dramatic moments that help take the story further.
Interspersed with a variety of soulful and lively song and dance routines, what made ‘Good Night’ a must-watch is the finesse with which the play has been produced. The talented actors perform their roles to perfection. The lighting moves in sync with the rhythmic dance sequences which have been choreographed brilliantly to the beats of popular songs.
‘Good Night’ was staged throughout SCRF’s first weekend and was indeed an ideal way for families to end theirs.
Next weekend, visitors to SCRF can watch Sharjah Book Authority’s very first stage production titled Book of Dreams, which will be staged as follows: May 27, Thursday, 19:30 -21:00; May 28, Friday, 19:30 -21:00; and May 29, Saturday, 18:00-19:30.
