Middle East’s leading social media name, entrepreneur and a legal advisor Rawan Bin Hussain joined forces with Oman based mental health clinic, Whisper of Serenity Clinic in Muscat for their first initiative ‘Not Alone Oman’ founded by Her Highness Sayyida Basma Al Said in line with the World Mental Health Day, recognized on October 10th every year.
The event focuses on the simple motto of ‘being kind’ in order to combat the increasing noise around mental health issues, bullying, abuse and more. Rawan, having previously fought and overcome online bullying, has come through to be of inspiration to several young Arab followers. The online meeting/webinar that hosted Rawan along with other credible doctors and mental health advocates stressed on the importance of practicing mindfulness and kindness in everyday situations and communications to instill the attitude as a habit.
Rawan commented and spoke about the topic so close to her heart. “ The first Benefactor of Kindness is the one who provide Kindness. It’s not just actions but it exists as heartfelt words of encouragement, thoughtful gestures of affection. A smile alone is an act of kindness. We don’t know the other person’s story, all I urge my followers is to remain kind, to remain non-judgmental.”
“Mental health is as important as physical health. It affects feelings, thoughts, and actions. It helps us handle stress, make choices, decisions, and relate to others, just like how we go to the gym, do regular dentist checkups, eat well to maintain our physical
health, mental and emotional health in not of less importance than physical health” She added.
Rawan has previously taken it upon herself to educate her following of over 5Million on her social media regarding the various abuses present and how to recognize these and seek help. She highlighted the need for open communication and seeking the right help whether in a doctor/therapist or a support group, thus opening doors to certain measures coming up in the region.
The event ended with the note that there needs to be less stigma around the topic and the only way forward is be more accepting of others around, to listen, to understand and not judge.
