Dubai Quran Award honours inmate memorisers

: The Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) has honoured the inmates of Dubai punitive and correctional institutions who have memorised different parts of the Quran and have had their jail terms commuted
The honouring ceremony saw the presence of H.E Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and Chairman of organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award
Also present were Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigations Affairs, Dubai Police, Advisor Hamad Gomaah Al Khallafy, Chief of Dubai Public Prosecution, Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali, Director-General of Dubai Punitive and Correctional Institutions, Ahmed Al Zahid, Head of Media Unit, DIHQA, and senior officials of Dubai Police and Public Prosecution
The honouring ceremony of the memorisers registered in the Inmate Program, one of the 14 branches of the 22-year-old Dubai International Holy Quran Award, was started with some verses from the Holy Quran recited by prisoner Mohammed Adam Kabur
In his speech, Ahmed Al Zahid, Member of the DIHQA organising committee and Head of Media Unit, said that tightly memorizing and perfectly reciting the holy Quran is a spring of light for all hearts
“Learning and reciting the Quran purify the soul as if one washes out dirt from a white cloth,” he said. “A true repentant shall be spiritually uplifted when the verses of the Quran guide him or her to Almighty Allah”
The organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, fully aware of the correctional role of the Dubai prisons, has introduced the Inmate program, as instructed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, he pointed out
“This generous bonus is meant to help the inmates start a new normal life and be good citizens. We want them to behave well and spend their free time in memorizing the Quran while serving their jail terms in such a great institution”
He then paid tributes to the Punitive and Correctional Institutions Department, Dubai Police, Dubai Public Prosecution, and all staff concerned for their support. “Our sincere appreciation is also for the Quran teachers and mentors involved,” he said, wishing the winning inmate memorisers to start a fresh chapter and be good citizens
Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Shamali, Director-General of Dubai Punitive and Correctional Institutions, thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for this valuable program
He also thanked the organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, led by H.E Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and Chairman of organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, and those involved in the program. “We are also gratefully to the Quran teachers and all inmate memorisers who have had their jail terms commuted as per their amount of Quran memorization”
Mahdi Al Saeedi, a winner inmate, later chanted a poem on ‘repentance’ that was quite hailed by the attendees. A documentary movie on the inmate program, its objectives and branches, was then played

The Dubai Punitive and Correctional Institutions Department presented trophies and prizes to H.E Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, and Mohammed Al Hammadi, IT and HR Manager, DIHQA, who is the supervisor of the program. Accolades were also given to the DIHQA staff involved, while the Dubai International Holy Quran Award presented their trophies to the Dubai Police and Dubai Public Prosecution
Later, Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigations Affairs, Dubai Police, paid tributes to H.E Ibrahim Mohamed Bu Melha, Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and Chairman of organising committee of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, and all those involved in the program
