The General Pension & Social Security Authority requests all of the employers subject to the provisions of the Federal Law No. (7) of 1999 on Pension and Social Security and its amendments to register their UAE national employees with GPSSA, knowing that the registration of the private and governmental sectors UAE national employees at the Authority is mandatory, with the exception of military retirees who were employed at the Federal Government departments after November 15, 1999 as per the Cabinet’s Decision No. (21) for 1999
GPSSA has further stated that each UAE national employee shall verify whether their employer has registered them or not in the Authority. In the event of non-registration, the employee shall contact the Authority to ensure the protection of their rights and those of their families, that is because registration is the first step towards receiving social security coverage and in the future getting a pension salary which is the ultimate goal
On another hand, Hanan Al Sahlawi, Acting Executive Director of the General Pension & Social Security Authority, asserted that registering UAE nationals with GPSSA protects them and their families against potential occupational risks especially that they will be entitled to obtain pension salary in the event of their death or a work-ability loss injury, even if the UAE national employee was registered with GPSSA for no more than one day
Furthermore, Al Sahlawi stated that the pension salary also covers the beneficiaries of the insured upon his or her death. Thus, the insured should always verify his ore her registration with GPSSA and also should ensure the monthly payment of their contributions to ensure the protection of their future and that of their family
In addition, she noted that the insured would be eligible for registration with GPSSA if their ages are between eighteen years old and not more than sixty years old. They should also be physically fit upon employment as per a medical report issued by certified medical entities by GPSSA. And they should be holding the UAE nationality
Al Sahlawi explained that according to the Pension Law employers should register their UAE national employees and pay their monthly contributions. Hence, any delay in the payment of these contributions will result in fines or penalties imposed on the employer only as the insured does not bare any financial obligation in this case. She further noted that there is no exemption from settling these fines and penalties accordingly she advises employers to settle them as soon as possible to avoid any additional charges
Finally, Al Sahlawi noted that the General Pension & Social Security Authority is currently contacting the employers hiring UAE national employees in free zones and within the tourism and hospitality sectors to highlight to them the importance of registration at GPSSA to cover their employees with social security
The authority further underlines the importance of ensuring that the human resource departments’ representatives at the various government and private entities to acquire the needed knowledge about the pension law and the rights and obligations of each party to avoid any legal repercussions due to the entity’s breach of any of the law’s clauses
