The British University in Dubai (BUiD) held its 5th Doctoral Research Conference online on Saturday 20 March 2021. More than 70 research papers were presented by BUiD postgraduate students in areas of education, management, finance, Blockchain, sustainability, computer science, AI and cyber security. The students delivered their research presentations through different sessions chaired by BUiD’s faculty members.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullah Alshamsi, welcomed participants and stressed the importance of such events in exchanging knowledge and improving interaction between students and staff.

The conference provided a platform for postgraduate students to share research, receive scholarly feedback, and network professionally. It was supported by our prestigious UK Universities Alliance as three keynote speakers from the University of Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Manchester participated in the event.

Professor Neil Robertson from the University of Edinburgh talked about the Low Carbon Centre that will be jointly established at BUiD. Professor Paul Garside from the University of Glasgow highlighted the research collaborations between the two universities and future prospects. Dr Richard Kirkham from the University of Manchester talked about the achievements of the UK’s Project X initiative.

Dr Khalid Al Marri, Dean of Research, said “We were very keen to organise this conference and encourage our students to participate. The conference provides a platform for them to share research and refine presentation skills. As a research-based university, we are committed to the UAE’s vision of a knowledge-based economy and this conference helps us in disseminating knowledge through research done by our students and faculty members.”

BUiD offers postgraduate programmes at both doctoral and Masters levels. The doctoral programmes are offered in six areas: Education; Project Management; Business Management; Architecture and the Sustainable Built Environment; Computer Science; and Business Law. Masters programmes are offered in specialist areas of Engineering, IT, Management, Finance, Law, and Education.
